SUMMARY: Danish Refugee Council is seeking a WASH Officer – Hygiene Promotion to support hygiene promotion activities within its WASH programme in Abyei. The role focuses on community engagement, hygiene education, monitoring, emergency response, and behaviour change to improve public health outcomes.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Design and implement hygiene promotion strategies, awareness campaigns, and community education activities
Mobilize communities and conduct hygiene education sessions, focus group discussions, and participatory activities
Monitor hygiene practices through surveys, field visits, and data collection, and prepare regular reports
Train and supervise field staff, hygiene promoters, community health workers, and volunteers
Coordinate with local authorities, NGOs, UN agencies, and other programme teams to integrate hygiene promotion into WASH interventions
Support emergency hygiene promotion activities, including hygiene kit distribution and preparedness planning

Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Environmental Health, or a related field; Master’s degree is an added advantage
Minimum 2–3 years of experience in hygiene promotion, public health education, or community development
Experience working in humanitarian or development settings, particularly in emergency or resource-poor environments
Experience designing and delivering hygiene education programmes
Knowledge of behaviour change communication, PHAST, CLTS, and hygiene kit distribution approaches
Strong communication, training, community engagement, and reporting skills
