SUMMARY:UNEP is seeking a Social & Environment Safeguards Expert to support compliance for the “Building resilience in the landscapes of Kigoma region, Tanzania” project. The role focuses on environmental and social safeguards, ESMS and ESMP implementation, gender action planning, grievance mechanisms, SEAH protocols, risk monitoring, and capacity building.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide safeguards guidance and support to the Project Management Unit, Gender and Safeguards Officer, Project Manager, and implementing partners.
Update the Environmental and Social Management System and develop an ESS Monitoring Plan.
Coordinate site-specific Environmental and Social Management Plans, guidelines, designs, and safeguard tools.
Support the project Grievance Redress Mechanism and SEAH Protocol, including training and operational guidance.
Conduct annual project visits to Kigoma to monitor safeguards, conflict risks, GRM, SEAH measures, and Gender Action Plan implementation.
Review safeguard reports, contribute to technical reporting, and respond to Government, UNEP, and GCF safeguard queries.

Requirements
Advanced university degree in natural resource management, biodiversity, climate change adaptation, ecosystem management, disaster risk reduction, environmental science, agriculture, water resources management, or a related field.
Minimum of 7 years in a senior technical role involving institutional strengthening, capacity building, and technical support to climate change adaptation or environmental projects.
Minimum of 5 years of professional experience managing environmental and social safeguards.
Experience in ecosystem rehabilitation and/or climate change adaptation safeguards is required.
Proven experience developing social and environmental safeguard instruments.
Experience with Green Climate Fund, Global Environment Facility, Adaptation Fund, or similar donor-funded projects is desirable.
