SUMMARY: The United Nations Department of Operational Support is seeking an Air Operations Officer to support the Forward Support and Deployment Hub in Entebbe. The role focuses on airfield infrastructure, aviation ground support, air cargo operations, airfield safety, stakeholder coordination, staff supervision, and support to UN field missions.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage support activities related to airfield projects, aviation equipment, and airfield infrastructure.

  • Plan, review, and develop airfield infrastructure in coordination with UN missions and headquarters.

  • Support airfield development plans, rehabilitation projects, and aviation ground support operations.

  • Train and supervise staff in airfield operations, cargo handling, ground handling, pallet loading, and related equipment use.

  • Coordinate with airport authorities, civil aviation authorities, contractors, and other stakeholders on airfield and helipad operations.

  • Monitor airfields, helipads, refuelling facilities, firefighting equipment, meteorological services, and related aviation assets.

Requirements

  • Advanced university degree in Air Transportation, Aviation Management, Aviation Safety Management, Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering, or equivalent military education.

  • A first-level university degree with professional training, air transport certification, and two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted.

  • Commercial Pilot License, Air Traffic Control License, Flight Operations Officer License, Aeronautical Engineer or Maintenance Engineer License, or equivalent military licence is required.

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in air transport operations or aviation safety.

  • At least 3 years of managerial experience coordinating complex international air transport operations.

  • Experience with ICAO standards, aviation safety, aviation quality management, UN field operations, and data analytics tools is desirable.
